How to install FlowCut

You get two files. Install one, not both. Same plugin, same licence key.

Why there are two

Each file costs you something different. The .exe does everything itself, but Windows warns you the first time because it is not signed yet. The .zxp never triggers that warning, but it goes in through a free installer you download once.

Watch the .exe install, two minutes →

Route 1: the installer (.exe)

  1. Close Premiere Pro.
  2. Run the file. The first run can take half a minute before anything appears.
  3. Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.
  4. Approve the admin prompt, tick the licence agreement, press Install.
  5. Wait. It copies the panel, downloads the speech models and adds an antivirus exception. Press Finish.
  6. Open Premiere → WindowExtensionsFlowCut. Paste your licence key.

Route 2: the Adobe package (.zxp)

Windows does not know what a .zxp is, so it needs an installer. It is free, open source, and you only ever download it once.

Watch the .zxp install, two minutes →

  1. Close Premiere Pro.
  2. Get ZXP Installer from zxpinstaller.com and run it. It is free and it does one job.
  3. Drag FlowCut-….zxp onto its window. It says when it is done.
  4. Open Premiere → WindowExtensionsFlowCut.
  5. Press Add antivirus exception if you use Windows Defender. It speeds up the first transcription.
  6. Paste your licence key.

Everything else is already inside the file, the speech models included, so there is nothing to download afterwards.

The Windows warning

The installer is not signed yet, because Microsoft is still verifying us. Until that is done, Windows shows a blue screen the first time and Defender sometimes takes the file into quarantine instead. It is the missing signature, not something found inside the file. Check it on VirusTotal if you want to see that for yourself.

Blue screen: click More info, then Run anyway. File gone from Downloads: open Windows SecurityVirus and threat protectionProtection history, find the FlowCut item and choose Allow on device, then run it again. Or take the .zxp, which does neither.

Good to know

FlowCut

One panel in Premiere Pro: cuts the silence, writes the captions, keeps the LUTs and overlays where you edit. Runs on your own computer. One payment, no subscription.
